eGFR Calculator
Estimate glomerular filtration rate in adults using the race-free 2021 CKD-EPI creatinine equation.
Input & Computation
The 2021 CKD-EPI creatinine equation is race-free. It uses sex-specific creatinine constants but does not include a race coefficient. eGFR is reported in mL/min/1.73 m² and is intended for adults aged 18 and older.

Interpretation Guide
2021 CKD-EPI Equation
eGFR = 142 × min(Scr/κ,1)^α × max(Scr/κ,1)^−1.200 × 0.9938^Age × (1.012 if female)
GFR Categories (mL/min/1.73 m²)
- G1 (90–Infinity) — Normal or high
- G2 (60–89) — Mildly decreased
- G3a (45–59) — Mildly to moderately decreased
- G3b (30–44) — Moderately to severely decreased
- G4 (15–29) — Severely decreased
- G5 (<15) — Kidney failure range

When to Use
- Estimating GFR in adults aged 18 years and older
- CKD staging and monitoring when serum creatinine is available
- Drug dosing decisions requiring a GFR estimate (per product-specific guidance)
- Outpatient renal function assessment with standardized creatinine assays
Common Pitfalls
- Not intended for patients under 18 years
- Unreliable in rapidly changing kidney function or acute kidney injury
- Less accurate with unusual muscle mass, amputation, severe malnutrition, or pregnancy
- A single eGFR does not establish CKD — chronicity and other markers are required
- Race coefficient is intentionally not used in the 2021 equation
